Technical Insights at Hintertux Glacier

Whether it’s grooming the slopes, snowmaking or even relocating lift towers, impressive technical work takes place at Hintertux Glacier every single day. This exclusive guided tour gives you a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover the sophisticated technology and expertise that make mountain adventures possible 365 days a year.

• Meeting point: 1:00 pm at the Gletscherbus 2 mountain station, where you will meet a member of the Zillertaler Gletscherbahn team. The tour begins with a visit to Gletscherbus 2 and the new 10er Tuxer Ferner gondola lift. From the drive system and grip workshop to the control station, you’ll experience cable car operations up close and discover how precision, safety and state-of-the-art technology work together.

• The second stop takes you to the pumping station, where you’ll learn all about the complex system behind technical snowmaking. Find out what technical snow is made of, when it can be produced and where the water required for snowmaking comes from. Afterwards, enjoy a special ride back to the Tuxer Fernerhaus in a snow groomer.

• For many guests, one of the absolute highlights is the third stop: the snow groomer workshop. This is where the powerful 600 hp machines are maintained and serviced throughout the year to keep them ready for action.

After approximately 90 minutes, the technical tour ends at the Tuxer Fernerhaus.
