Beautiful Hike in the Schönach Valley
Basic Equipment
• Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip • Comfortable backpack • Sufficient water (at least 1–1.5 liters, depending on temperature and duration) • Snacks or a light meal (e.g., bread, fruit, nuts, energy bars)
Clothing (in layers!) • Breathable T-shirt • Warm layer (fleece or sweater) • Wind and/or rain jacket (the weather can change quickly in the mountains) • Cap or beanie, depending on the season • Gloves if it's colder
Practical & Safety • Sunscreen (sunglasses, sunscreen) • Map or a hiking app on your phone (with a full battery) • Small first-aid kit (band-aids, blister plasters) • Cash (for a mountain hut or snack station) • Phone + possibly a power bank
Practical Extras • Hiking poles (especially helpful during ascents and descents) • Rain cover for the backpack • Small seat cushion • Camera or binoculars if you enjoy the view
Duration
Description
We start at the parking lot at the beginning of the Schönach Valley. From there, we follow a wide hiking trail that gradually ascends to the edge of the forest. Here, the wide path transitions into a narrower hiking trail. From this point, the path continues to rise gently, and we walk along a beautiful panoramic trail with impressive views over the Schönach Valley. After an easy descent, we reach the Lackenalm snack station, where we have the opportunity to enjoy a small refreshment and a drink. (Please check opening hours) The further descent takes place via a wide path that leads us back to the starting point.
• Duration of the hike: approx. 4 to 5 hours (including breaks)
• Hiking time: 3 to 3.5 hours

• Registration: by 6:00 PM the evening before
